The Ragdoll is a purebred cat that originated in California by a breeder named Ann Baker. There has been much myth about the origin of the breed. It is believed that Ann took a white Persian-type female and breed it with a Birman-type male, both of which she found living around her home. The name of the breed was created by the way they seem to go limp in your arms, like a Ragdoll, when you hold them. Ragdolls in general are very loving, mellow, easy-going, love attention and to play. They are very social and would love to have other cats or a dog for them to socialize and play with. Most have soft voices and may be vocal at meal time. They are one of the larges cat breeds with some males getting as large as 20 pounds and females 15 pounds. They are a slow growing and don't reach full size and color until they are about four years old. Ragdolls are a heavy-boned cat with a broad head, medium size ears and beautiful oval shaped blue eyes. Unlike most other cats Ragdolls don't have an undercoat so some people who are allergic don't have a problem with this breed. Their coat is medium length, with a soft non-matting texture, making it a very low maintenance cat.
